Hi, I’m Clare

I’ve always been happiest making things.

Whether it was drawing, painting murals at home or searching for unusual furniture and vintage treasures, I’ve always loved objects with character and personality.

Mantelpiece Geese grew from that same passion.

The name itself doesn’t have a grand story behind it. It simply felt a little quirky and nostalgic—something that brings to mind old homes filled with treasured objects collected over time. It made me smile, and somehow it just felt right.

For me, restoring furniture isn’t simply about painting a cabinet or repairing a table.

It’s about seeing potential where someone else might not.

I love every part of the journey—from discovering a forgotten piece and meeting the person who’s ready to part with it, to carefully restoring, painting or repairing it before watching it begin a completely new chapter in someone else’s home.

No two projects are ever the same, and that’s one of the things I love most. One day I might be carefully restoring the natural beauty of an old oak table, and the next I’m experimenting with colour, upholstery or new techniques to completely transform a piece that had been overlooked.

Quality is always at the heart of what I do.

Solid wood furniture deserves to be saved. The craftsmanship, the elegant details and the character simply can’t be matched by modern flat-pack furniture. Whether it’s a beautifully shaped sideboard, a drop-leaf table or a chest of drawers with lovely turned legs, I see possibilities rather than problems.

Alongside my own collection of restored furniture, I also love helping people breathe new life into furniture they already own through commission work. Sometimes a treasured family piece just needs a fresh perspective to become something you’ll enjoy for years to come.

Every piece I sell has been chosen because I genuinely loved it.

Hopefully you’ll love it too.

A Few Things About Me

  • I love finding unusual furniture with beautiful details and solid craftsmanship.
  • I’m happiest when I’m creating, whether that’s restoring furniture, painting or trying out new techniques.
  • I enjoy the challenge of seeing potential in pieces that others might overlook.
  • I believe quality furniture should be cherished, not replaced.
  • My favourite part of the process is seeing a restored piece settle into its new home and become part of someone else’s story.
